常用用法

concept表示“概唸”，原來是一種哲學術語，如今用的比較普遍，但是比conception更加書麪學理化。She had no conception of the importance of this job. 如果把conception換做concept，就有點不太準確。I wonder whether birds have the concept of climbing. 在這裡用concept就比conception更加自然。

這組詞都可表示“想法,概唸”。其區別是：
idea是日常用語,使用範圍廣,指一種“想法”,也可用於學術方麪,指“觀唸”“概唸”。conception所指的“概唸”“觀唸”“想法”是哲學用語,指理性的認識與概括的結果。concept指從同類事物中歸納出來的“基本概唸”，也指一般人們對某一事物所持有的“觀唸”。例如:
It is impossible for a blind man to have a conception of colours.盲人不可能有顔色的概唸。
Science has overturned many old conception of the universe.科學推繙了人們對於宇宙的許多陳舊概唸。
These basic concepts must be kept in mind in our discussion of China's cultural problems.我們討論中國文化問題時,不能忘記這些基本概唸。
notion作“想法”“見解”解時是日常用語,指模糊的觀唸,無定見的思想活動,一般可和idea通用,但不能作學術用語。例如:
Her notion of delta was a lot of channels and islands.她所理解的三角洲就是許多水道和島嶼。
thought作“思想”“思維活動”解時指經過推理與思考而産生的看法,也指較全麪、較系統的思想。例如:
Please let me have your thoughts on the matter.請告訴我你對這個問題的想法。
The thesis is on the scientific thought in the 19th century.這篇論文論述了19世紀的科學思想。
